I Didn't Expect to Show Up Like This

This has been a few years in the making, but I recently hit 300 classes at my favorite studio, [solidcore].

It’s funny, because if you told me this when I first started, I would’ve laughed. I’ve always liked fitness classes, but I’ve never really seen myself as that type of person. I only just recently started wearing matching sets ok.

But that’s kind of the point.

I am proud of myself, obviously. But more than that, I’m a little surprised. And that feels bigger.

When was the last time I surprised myself like this?

The only thing that comes to mind is a few years ago when I randomly decided to run a half marathon. Another thing I definitely didn’t see coming.

And I think that’s why this feels worth paying attention to.

Because moments like this aren’t really about the number—300 classes, 13.1 miles, whatever it is. It’s about realizing that the person who started is not the same person who kept going.

Which sounds a little dramatic, but it’s true.

Somewhere along the way, you become someone who shows up. Someone who follows through. Someone you maybe didn’t expect to be.

And it doesn’t have to be fitness. It can be anything.

But I do think there’s something worth reflecting on when you surprise yourself like that. It usually means you’ve crossed some invisible line—into a version of yourself you hadn’t fully met yet.

If you want to take that idea even further, look up the Misogi Challenge. I learned about it the year I ran that half marathon, and I haven’t really set a goal like that since.

Maybe it’s time to bring that back.
